Critical Processes had its origin in the work on clean (non-polluting) methods that were developed by research at the University of Leeds (UK) by Tony Clifford, Keith Bartle, Harold Vandenburg, Ricky Green and their colleagues. These methods included supercritical carbon dioxide and superheated (subcritical) water. The mission of the company is to transfer these clean methods to industry both by doing contract research to help other companies to become greener and also by manufacturing green products from plant materials. The scale of manufacturing is steadily increasing with this development coinciding with a movement amongst many commercial companies to make their products more from natural materials, and in an environmentally friendly manner.
