Food Institute (TUBITAK MAM) is one of the seven institutes within TUBITAK Marmara Research Center, and was established in 1972. It is the leading research institute in the field of food science and technology, nutrition and functional foods as well as food microbiology and biotechnology.
The mission of the institute is to carry out R&D studies and industrial services to contribute to the food industry (particularly SMEs) to improve its technological ability to strengthen the competitiveness in local and international markets. The institute carries out its activities with three Strategic Business Units (Food Science and Technology, Nutrition and Functional Foods and Food Microbiology and Biotechnology). Food institute has actively participated in 12 EU projects, namely agronomy (MoniQA, FERBEV, SAFOODNET, EuroFIR, HEATOX, QualityLowInputFood, SAFEFOODERA, MYCOGLOBE, FOODLINK, SAFETechnoPACK, MYCORED, and APIFRESH).
Main Roles in BACCHUS:
WP2: participating in methods ring-testing.
WP3: data evaluator for eBASIS; identifying and quantifying of various polyphenols in pomegranate extracts and measurement of total phenolic content, antioxidant activity and compositional characteristics.
WP6: will carry out dietary intervention study on anti-atherogenic effect of the pomegranate extract including ethical documents for approval.
